Nha Trang

After a rough night on the sleeper bus we arrived bright and early in Nha Trang at 5:30am. The beach was buzzing with locals working out doing aerobics, swimming in the sea and people watching the sunrise.

I managed to get wifi on the night bus for all of about 30 minutes so I booked us into a cheap hotel, although we had accommodation arranged we couldn’t check in till 12noon. We decided to kill some time and look for breakfast as we hadn’t eaten properly in nearly 15 hours. It got to 7:30am so we thought we would try our luck at checking in early. Luckily the hotel receptionist said we could at 8:30am so we sat and waited in the already boiling heat.

Once checked in we made our way to Tru Beach with spanned for 7km or more. We picked our spot and took our shower in the sea. As much as I love sun bathing the heat was so intense we had to keep taking breaks as we were all starting to look like lobsters. Jannis brought a volley ball so we spent majority of the time in the ocean playing volley ball, piggy in the middle which I didn’t stand a chance at, several attempts at drowning each other and swimming races, all quite childish but fun. After the beach me and Kevin went to the hotel pool and had a ferocious game of catch which my head was nearly taken off as well as annoying the staff who were collecting and hanging up the hotel washing which ended up a little wet again..we got told off, whoops.

The boys only had one night in Nha Trang before they were due to go to Saigon for their flight to Bangkok, so we decided it was going to be a big night ahead and searched for a good club, in the end we picked Zima. We stocked up on more Hanoi vodka for pre drinks and got ready.

After some food, which was one of the worst meals we had eaten so far we went back to the hotel rooftop pool for drinking games. We made our way to Zima which had the grandest red carpet entrance and I was dressed in shorts and Havannas, I defiantly stuck out like a sore thumb. We brought some over priced drinks and sat observing the weird mix of people, majority of who were Russian. The DJ banged out some of the worst songs I’d heard as well as not being able to mix them, they also had a MJ tribute act who was actually amazing. The club in general was weird but we had a good time dancing all night to the horrendous music.

Around 2am we went back to the hotel whilst looking for food on the way, unfortunately we ended up with one dry baguette shared between three.

It’s fair to say our heads the next morning hurt and we needed food. We checked out and went to my next nights accommodation where they allowed Jannis and Kevin store their bags for the day as well. The room was clean and cold which is all you need, except I was top bunk..again!

We went to the beach and sat under an umbrella sleeping most of the day, we couldn’t face the heat being so hungover. Before I knew it it was time to collect the guys bags and head to the bus, where I also had to book a ticket for the next day. Whilst we waited we played our final game of cheat with our pack of 72 cards, somehow this worked.

Just before the bus arrived I said goodbye to the boys, I was gutted to see them go. We had travelled together for 10/11 days and it worked, we all got on and had such a laugh together. As I said to them I couldn’t have wished to meet better travel companions as well as learning every bad word of the German language. Walking back to the hostel I was pretty emotional, I didn’t realise the hardest part of travelling was saying goodbye to the people you meet along the way and felt pretty alone.

I was quickly brought back down to earth when a Vietmanese guy tried ripping a gold necklace off a Russian who had him in a headlock screaming at him. I quickly made my way back to the hostel where I had an early night ready for my bus the next day.

Breakfast consisted of more eggs and fried rice which I can’t complain about, after which I made the long sweaty trek to the bus station.

My overall impression of Nha Trang was that it felt more like somewhere you would go for an all inclusive holiday, the only reason I can think you would stop here for longer than 1 or 2 nights is because your a diver, as this is the best place to dive. Other than that it was too crowed with what seemed like rude Russians and bright tacky lights. The beach was great but I was happy to be moving on somewhere new.

Next up, Dalat thank fully.
